Course Outline:

  • Installation and testing
  • Check electrical systems for visual defects: plugs, leads, flexes, ceiling roses, lamp holders, sockets.
  • Use soft soldering equipment to join sheet electrical connections and electronic components.
  • Observe the deflections produced on a centre zero voltmeter when the armature of an a.c. Generator is slowly rotated.
  • Observe the deflections produced on a center zero voltmeter when the armature of a d.c. Generator is slowly rotated.
  • Drill holes in walls and insert plugs for screws.
  • Determine rating of cables and flexible cords
  • Select wiring conductors for specific applications.
  • Make terminations and connections in cords, cables, conduit and trunking.
  • Construct and install a steel conduit system and test for electrical continuity one 90° pulled bend, two outlet boxes.
  • Install a lamp holder, switch and wiring to the steel conduit system in and terminate conductors.
  • Test the steel conduit system.
  • Construct and install a plastic conduit system, one inspection box, one outlet box.
  • A variety of standard power tools, equipment and trenchers in electrical installations, maintenance and repair activities.
  • How to Keep generator, lighting, and electrical systems in working order.
  • Making periodic inspection for new electrical services (120v, 240v and 480v three phase), including wiring, conduit, panels, breakers, contractors, relays, timers and controls.
  • Provides assistance to officials, staff, visitors, and other employees as necessary. Checks building at beginning and end of shifts.
  • Participates in building coverage by working evenings and Saturday rotation as required.
