It is used to remove excessive frost formed in the evaporator by putting of the machine for some time or throttling the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. Which in turn the things put in the evaporator absorbs the cold there by dissipating the heat to the ice inside the evaporator (freezer) results in melting of ice.
